Shalom MHSA Members and visitors!

The Persia study last year {2010-2011} was really a terrific beginning...Praise YAH!

The vision for the MHSA 2011is to expand some of the things we did last year for Purim/Persian. Although some of the details are a little “fuzzy”, we will be working to incorporate the different disciplines/areas of study into the times that we meet. We are seeking and hoping to extend our time together…either adding an additional morning or afternoon time or to increase the time of the one meeting.

The outline/syllabus that was posted is intended to generate a little excitement for the students. As they review the list, hopefully an area of interest will stand out…perhaps a subject they haven’t studied before...or maybe a new or deeper study in an area they’ve completed an introductory study.

*A Note from Kelly - At first I had wanted to use the outline/syllabus for just the MHSA weekly meetings, but the more I worked with it, the more interested I became in the Unit study concept. Therefore Tristan and I agreed to follow the pattern of the syllabus even in the independent aspects of our studies this year.

Concerning the MHSA this year : As we begin this more advanced style of study, each child will participate at his/her own level in the to preparation of  a presentation in one of the following formats:

    audio (this can work for music or poetry or creative writing, even “radio style” drama),

    with camera (demonstrating a science experiment, demonstrating a craft or skill), or even

     a PowerPoint Presentation {this works great for presenting photos, maps, charts, diagrams or pictures to accompany a narrative}

..in the subject that most interests them…(or the one in which MOM says they need to strengthen a weakness…!)

Studying as a group is another exciting option …there is not a  complete picture with all the details...but we see a lot of potential.  I realized that

Ø the Moms can  use the emails and attachments to post or print out teaching materials that all the children would be expected to complete or to use for the class…that way anyone can participate – no matter the location of each family.

Ø As a support for one another – and the students- we can develop lesson plans and teaching materials that meet our needs.

Ø We can share favorite documents that any of us have used in the past as a powerful way to maximize our time and energy

 –It’s like developing an MHSA library as we go along….that way the journey will ease up by as we move along! If you have any thoughts about this I’d love to hear them!

*Another note from Kelly-I always think globally FIRST with all MHSA activities. I focus down to the local level very gradually...Eventually I would love to have LOCAL MHSA chapters in every state! But that may not be this year …LOL!

As long as the activities keep YHVH and HIS calendar in the center of all MHSA plans- we really can’t go wrong….the specific ways that we implement the unit studies can be tailored to meet our specific needs this year according to the particular  age levels, study habits, and  interests of the group this year.

We are very excited about this 2011 school year I am really looking ahead with joy!

Closing thoughts –

As with any other home school activity or coop, or even Boy Scouts meetings – the students and the parents only receive in accordance with what they are willing to invest in the project or event. In other words, the MHSA does not have a full time paid (or even volunteer staff). The more we experience active participation from the members, we will be better able to produce lessons and activities of excellence. The moms and dads -  working together -  will be used by YHVH to create something of lasting power and beauty.

As a home schooling family – the Dinnerman household will be proceeding with this project – the MHSA – whether there are only a few participants or there are many...{Therefore be encouraged - If you sign up to participate with any of the scheduled activities or lessons – they will not be cancelled based on the # of participants} We have received a call from YHVH to do this work and we are, indeed, very willing.
